NOT LEGAL ADVICE — This is a legal information service only. We are not lawyers. We are not a law firm. Always consult a qualified legal professional for your specific situation.
1. About This Service
NOT A LAW FIRM. NOT A LAWYER. NOT A LEGAL SERVICE.
Not a Lawyer ("the Service") is an AI-powered tool that provides legal INFORMATION about Canadian law in plain language, with citations from actual legislation. The Service is operated by BlueWise AI.
The Service does not provide legal advice, legal opinions, legal strategy, or legal representation of any kind. Nothing produced by the Service constitutes a solicitor-client relationship or any other professional relationship.
2. Information Only — Not Legal Advice
All content generated by the Service is for informational and educational purposes only. It explains what Canadian statutes say — it does not tell you what to do in your specific situation.
By using the Service, you acknowledge and agree that:
- •You are receiving legal INFORMATION, not legal ADVICE.
- •The Service cannot and does not evaluate your specific legal situation.
- •No answer from the Service should be relied upon as a substitute for advice from a qualified, licensed legal professional.
- •You will consult a licensed lawyer, paralegal, or notary before taking any legal action or making any legal decision.
3. Accuracy and Currency of Information
Laws change. Legislation is amended, repealed, and reinterpreted by courts on an ongoing basis. The information provided by the Service reflects the statutory text indexed at the time of last update and may not reflect recent amendments, regulations, case law, or judicial interpretation.
You acknowledge that:
- •We make no guarantee of accuracy, completeness, or currency.
- •You must verify all legal information with official government sources and current legislation.
- •Court interpretation may differ materially from the plain text of a statute.
- •The Service is not a substitute for legal research conducted by a qualified professional.
4. Eligibility
You must be 18 years of age or older to use the Service. If you are under 18, you may only use the Service with the express consent and active supervision of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to be bound by these Terms on your behalf.
By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you meet this eligibility requirement.
5. Subscription Terms

- •AUTO-RENEWAL: Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled before the renewal date.

6. Data and Privacy

- •We do not train our AI models on your data.
- •We do not share your data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.
- •Free tier conversations are not stored after your session ends.
- •Paid tier conversations are stored encrypted for history purposes, per our Privacy Policy.
Please review our Privacy Policy for complete details on data handling.
7. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE CANADIAN LAW, BLUEWISE AI, ITS DIRECTORS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR RELIANCE ON THE SERVICE.
This includes, without limitation, damages arising from legal decisions made based on information provided by the Service, errors or omissions in legal information, service interruptions, or unauthorized access to your data.
If the foregoing limitation is found unenforceable, our total liability shall not exceed the greater of (a) fees paid for the Service in the 12 months prior to the claim, or (b) CAD $100.
8. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless BlueWise AI and its directors, officers, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your reliance on information provided by the Service.
9. Intellectual Property
The Service, its interface, design, and underlying technology are the property of BlueWise AI. Canadian legislation cited through the Service remains the intellectual property of the Crown or the applicable government publisher and is reproduced under their respective open licences (see our Sources page). You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works of the Service without our written permission.
10. Prohibited Uses
You may not use the Service to:
- •Provide legal advice to others as if it were your professional opinion.
- •Circumvent usage limits or access controls.
- •Submit false, misleading, or harmful content.
- •Violate any applicable law or regulation.
- •Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or systematically extract the Service's underlying data or models.
11. Emergency Situations
Not a Lawyer is not an emergency service. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 911. The Service may detect emergency keywords and display crisis resources, but this is not a substitute for emergency services.
12. Modifications to Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated via email at least 14 days before taking effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. The current version is always available at notalawyer.app/terms.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Canada and the Province of Quebec applicable therein. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the district of Montreal, Quebec.
